Holy cow! The first place Cubs beat KC 5-4 on Tuesday night at Wrigley, their fifth straight win! They're sporting the best record in the NL, folks!
Kyle Hendricks had a dominant start (7 IP, 2 ER, 3 K) while homers from J-Hey (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Kipnis (.429 BA), and Willy (2-for-4, .314 BA) powered the offense for the North Siders.
The series moves to KC for the final two games, starting Wednesday. 11 games down, 49 to go.
Go Cubs go!

Shouldn't it be 46?
61-9(Cubs wins)-6(Reds losses)=46
Nope. From the blog:
THE CHICAGO CUBS MAGIC NUMBER IS CALCULATED USING THE FOLLOWING EQUATION: TOTAL NUMBER OF GAMES + 1 - WINS BY THE CUBS - LOSSES BY NL CENTRAL OPPONENT WITH FEWEST LOSSES.
Cards have the fewest losses (3). 60+1-9-3=49.
Go Cubs go!
The cards aren't going to play 60 games, so this doesn't work.
As of today, MLB has put 58 games on STL's schedule and may add a makeup DH vs. DET to get them to 60.
Since 60 games are still on the table, and since no lesser number of games is definitive according to MLB, the CMN is still based on a 60-game schedule for all.
Stay tuned and go Cubs go!
